At Hanged Empress, sustainability is not a perfected achievement but an ongoing practice, one we recommit to with every decision, every collaboration, every stitch. We are a small, independent reality, and we choose to work in ways that feel honest, thoughtful, and true to our values. For us, authenticity is not a marketing tool; it is the quiet, constant work of making pieces with care, integrity and purpose.

We focus on making things well and making them last. That means choosing materials with care, building garments with integrity, and finding creative ways to use what already exists. Fabrics are sourced from Italy and Japan, selected for their depth of character and their ability to stand the test of time. Our pieces are made mainly in Italy and in London, allowing us to remain closely connected to the process and the people who bring them to life.

Embroidery is entrusted to independent artisans in India, where each stitch preserves generations of knowledge. Knitwear is crafted in Rome by a family-owned, women-led atelier with decades of expertise in hand-finished garments. We place great value on long-lasting relationships with the people we work with. Many are friends as much as collaborators, and our partnerships are grounded in mutual respect, shared values and the desire to grow together.

We give materials a second life, repurposing textiles and reworking unsold garments into new pieces. Upholstery and interior fabrics, once intended for furniture, find new form as garments that carry both history and reinvention. We work with deadstock fabrics from mills and houses that have their own long histories, preserving the craftsmanship embedded in them while reducing waste. For us, circularity is not a trend; it is a way of keeping beauty in motion, honouring the resources we use and avoiding unnecessary production. Rooted in artisanal tradition and ethical responsibility, every Hanged Empress piece carries a deeper purpose: to honour where it came from, to exist meaningfully in the present, and to live on beyond us.
